Recap: Presenting and Exhibiting at Youth at Risk Conference 2013 (6.5.13)

Blueskies Wellness was honored to be a part of the 13th annual Youth At Risk conference held on Wednesday 6/5 at Endicott College.  In addition to being a featured exhibitor, we hosted our own breakout session, "Bystander: Know Your Power”, presented by BSW founder Belen Godwin, LCSW/PhDC. We covered the research behind the Bystander Effect phenomenon, as well as 5 practical ways individuals can “step up, not out!” (pictured below). We reminded attendees that bullying stops in less than 10 seconds, 57% of the time, when someone intervenes on behalf of the victim.

Created by the Essex County Community Foundation, YAR brought together over 40   nonprofit organizations and industry vendors that provide unique services and resources to those who serve and care for youth.  Nearly 700 attendees included those who work with and care for youth in a variety of settings (family, community, school, religious, healthcare, human services, recreational, and legal.) Keynote speaker Michael Thompson, PhD spoke about the challenges boys now face with the current school system, and showed how some teachers are and principals are learning to better balance academics and hands-on learning.
It truly was an honor to be invited to participate in this fantastic collaboration and share the unique opportunity to network with our peers and partner  with those who serve our most vulnerable youth.
